A man sits on the steps of the Cowgate
Clinic. Across the road a placard rather bizarrely announces Summer
of Love (I thought that was in 1967) and also states "I love
Shagtag" (which could be a music group - or maybe a sex game).
A few yards away is this Keep Left sign
at a traffic island. Obviously a driver failed to observe the sign
and drove right over it. The Keep Left sign has tenaciously maintained
its grip on the ground but is now somewhat distorted. I think it deserves
a place in an art gallery.
I've photographed this street before
but couldn't resist doing so again on this sunny morning. There were
very few parked cars to spoil the view. The first of three shots shows
the Rolling Stone Gallery, the Brush Shop, Zone Bleue and part of
Victoria Terrace above.
South Bridge as seen from the Cowgate in March 2003.
Most of the fire wreckage has been cleared and there appears to be
new patches of brickwork in the ancient old underbelly of the South
Side.
