Changes in 2008 |

I was sure that this building had been demolished until I revisited the area. I think what they've done is to demolish the brick building then rebuild part of it using the old bricks. If you look at previous pictures you'll see that the windows in the round section used to be in a spiral, as befits a spiral staircase.

A broader view of the scene. More pictures of the building as it used to be can be found on Fountainbridge 3.

The first of four pictures of the changing landscape of the brewery area as seen from the Lochrin Basin of the Union Canal. Behind the wooden fence is Fountainbridge. The street leading away to the north is Grove Street.

Further east along the canal bank, looking back towards what remains of the brewery. To the north west three cranes are poised over the new Springside development. There's going to be quite an increase in population in this area.

Zoomed in to get a closer look at the attractive stone building at the corner of Grove Street. A double decker bus heads along Fountainbridge towards the city centre. Corstorphine Hill is in the distance.

The McEWAN'S sign with the image of the laughing cavalier will soon be gone. Edinburgh's landscape is changing fast.
![]() |
A few weeks have passed since the previous photos but not much has changed.
![]() |
There aren't many people about in the winter sunshine but this area is already popular and will be getting much busier soon.

At the end of the fence in the previous picture. It rather looks like the canal is going to be extended into this area.
![]() |
The last bend in the canal. It ends just round to the left. Earlier pictures on Tollcross - Fountainbridge area page 1 show the end of the canal.
![]() |
These metal swan sculptures adorn the wooden walkway at the end of the canal.

A sequence of four pictures of opportunistic seagulls grabbing leftovers at the Cargo Bar's open-air restaurant.

Having checked that it was safe to do so, the bird on the right is now about to tuck in.
![]() |
The gulls don't fold their wings away. They're always ready for a quick escape.
![]() |
There's a bit of a conflict of interest here. The bird on the right may have just realised that its companion got the better deal.

East Fountainbridge connects the West Port to Fountainbridge at the junction of Lothian Road and Earl Grey Street. This building is probably its most attractive feature. There's a short street called Riego Street which leads to the local job centre at High Riggs. |
