Fountainbridge, Leamington, Gardner's Crescent

	Fountainbridge Mosaic 0 1152 x 864 214K	At the corner of East Fountainbridge and Lothian Road is this entranceway with its attractively tiled half dome.

	Leamington 2 1152 x 864 158K	Not far away from Fountainbridge is the Leamington Lift Bridge connecting Gilmore Park to Leamington Road. The bridge is now closed to traffic.
	Leamington 5 1152 x 864 225K	The bridge from the other (east) side. This is very near the start of the Union Canal which leads all the way to the Falkirk Wheel which connects with the Forth and Clyde Canal.

	Lochrin Basin 00 1152 x 864 221K	It's June 2005 and the cars and garage walls have gone. The little old church with bricked-up windows is still there. This wider view shows the foreground area on the north bank of the canal, only recently opened to the public. I suspect great things are afoot hereabouts; this empty space cannot last.
	High Riggs 1152 x 864 237K	A view up this pedestrianised area from Tollcross. The Job Centre is further up on the left. It used to be at the corner of Riego Street (now gone) somewhere to the left of the Police Box. Edinburgh Castle looms overhead in the distance.
	High Riggs (a) 695 x 864 122K	This wide angle shot is taken slightly to the right of the previous vantage point. To the right of this wedge shaped building is Lauriston Place which leads up to the old Royal Infirmary. The yellow door is the entrance to a restaurant called "Two Thin Laddies".
	Lower Gilmore Place 00 1152 x 864 137K	February 2003 and some buildings on the south side of the Union Canal are about to be demolished. The International Trading Company will have to carry on its trade elsewhere.
	Lower Gilmore Place 01 1152 x 864 183K	A red crane towers into the blue sky. New developments are on the way in the Fountainbridge area.
	Gardner's Crescent 1280 x 854 349K	Pink blossoms dangle over a temporary fence in Gardner's Crescent. Behind the fence, the gardens have been invaded by some kind of construction work.
	Rosemount Buildings 539 x 768 94K	A very interesting brick building next to Gardner's Crescent.
	Rosemount Buildings 03 1152 x 864 285K	The previous view was taken with a Nikon Coolpix 900 1.2Megapixel camera with a 24mm equivalent wide angle lens. This later shot was taken from further away with the zoom lens on my Olympus E-10 4Megapixel camera.

	Tollcross 519 x 600 83K	Looking towards the south west corner of Lauriston Place, before the brick tenements and shops were built. The person on the bench is wearing clogs and a fur coat, and reading a book. Most folks used to just drink cans of Carlsberg here.
	Viewforth 1152 x 864 134K	The view up this street from Dundee Street. Viewforth crosses the Union Canal at the top of the hill, then climbs further up towards Bruntsfield Place. If you're coming down then there is a view of the Firth of Forth, hence the name,
	Fountainbridge 0309c 1152 x 864 178K	The former Palais de Danse has been a bingo hall for a few years. There used to be a snooker hall next door in the space now occupied by the framework of a new multi-storey building overlooking the Union Canal's Lochrin Basin.
	Fountainbridge 0309 802 x 864 191K	Another look at the scene above, this time through a longer lens. The Union Canal used to continue across Fountainbridge to Port Hamilton and Port Hopetoun which occupied the entire city block bounded by Lothian Road, Semple Street and Morrison Street.
	Methodist Central Hall 1152 x 864 211K	Photographed on Open Day on 27 September 2003. The building is bordered by Earl Grey Street, West Tollcross and Dunbar Street.
	Kings Theatre 1090 x 864 226K	This red sandstone building features straight plays, musicals and pantomime. It's adjacent to the Tollcross junction where Home Street changes its name to Leven Street for a couple of blocks, before becoming Bruntsfield Place.
