This is in the north west corner of the square, behind Marshall Street. The painted-on advertisements were still legible last time I looked.

How it looked in 1979. It will be rather smarter now, due partly to its proximity to the new parliament building.

A similar view 26 years later. The Flodden Wall has been around rather longer than that. More information here at The University of Edinburgh website. (Near the foot of the page)

A closer look at the old city wall. An old arched entrance has been closed up but fitted with a wee door and a tiny barred window, too high to see through. The old Police Box is comparatively recent, tens of years old rather than hundreds. In the 1979 picture above, the Pleasance was closed but Drummond Street was still open to traffic.

Holyrood Park in the snow. The roundabout is near the Dalkeith Road entrance to the park, not far from the Commonwealth Pool.

This is the Lutton Place door. Just round the corner is the front door in St Leonard's Street. The owner says, cut down on landfill and recycle your stuff. The colourful paint job on the side door caught my eye on a dull day.

Smoky chimneys in the late 1970s. Photographed from Salisbury Crags. Montague Street, Rankeillor Street and The Meadows are all visible.

The road surface caught the attention of my wide-angle lens this day. Looking north towards Carnegie Court.

It's hard to believe that these are steps to a Royal Park. This area looks rather different nowadays. The next picture is facing the other way...
