Views of Granton Gasworks

Granton Gasworks are highly visible for miles around. Because of this they feature in many of my photographs taken from other areas. Some images will be copied from other parts of the site, e.g. the first picture also appears in Edinburgh Central, Calton page 3.

The telephoto effect makes Oxgangs and Granton appear closer together. The A720 city bypass and the Firth of Forth are both visible too. Photographed from the Pentland Hills in April 2000.

Looking across the top of Davidson's Mains and Muirhouse towards the Firth of Forth. This picture, taken early in 2001, shows all three gasometers. Originally, a total of eight had been planned.

Howden Glen leads up here from Dreghorn. Beyond the signpost is the Firth of Forth and, of course, Granton Gasworks.
Winter view

From Bonaly in the Pentland Hills, the view north is dominated by the towers, especially through a zoom lens on a clear day like this. The tower on the other side of the Firth of Forth is the Craigkelly TV transmitter.
Summer view

A summer view north from Bonaly. The distinctive shape of the gasworks catches the eye even at this distance. It's obvious that this is a local landmark for travellers. It may not remain for much longer.
