This band (I'm afraid I didn't get their name) have their own unique style with four drummers and a piper playing the bagpipes in an innovative fashion, with improvisation - not unlike a rock band with Celtic roots. A crowd rapidly formed at Hunter Square to hear their amazingly good music.

In this shot I've zoomed in on the piper. I attribute the bizarre feeling of deja vu I experienced when looking at these guys to a comic strip in Electric Soup, a Scottish underground comic from the early '90s. My favourite characters were The MacBam Brothers and I think there's a resemblance... Click on the link to see if you agree.

The piper by himself. He who pays the piper (and the rest of the band) may buy a CD. Sadly, I had to leave early and failed to get the band's name or buy a CD - but I was so impressed I did at least throw some money in the drum/collecting box for the privilege of taking the photos.

Since an Australian waitress was killed by falling masonry there's been some worries about the state of some of Edinburgh's buildings. The scaffolding at the corner of North Bridge and the High Street seems to have become almost permanent. The huge picture seen here at least partially covers up the ugly scaffolding.

This bridge crosses the valley between Chambers Street and the Royal Mile and runs parallel to South Bridge. Most of the arches are hidden by buildings but Merchant Street is an exception. |
