Calton page 9	This page features pictures taken one day in October 2006 starting from the top of the Nelson Monument then continuing down Jacob's Ladder to Calton Road and New Street.

	Calton Hill 23 1280 x 849 378K	I first took similar photos from here in May 2003 (see page 5). The green dome is at the north east corner of the City Observatory.

	New Street 63 1280 x 851 336K	Work continues apace in clearing the site. The higher viewpoint gives a different view to the previous pictures taken from the top of Jacob's Ladder. The four square holes in the surface at the bottom of the picture allow some sunlight to filter in as seen further down the page in New Street 66

	New Street 64 1280 x 851 289 K	On the other (west) side of New Street the bags of topsoil have gone from the new building's roof to be replaced by green turf. There are other roof gardens nearby beside Calton Hill at Greenside and also on the revamped old GPO building.

	Jacob's Ladder 05 1280 x 1010 269K	The sign reading JACOB'S LADDER is just legible over the archway, through which a rasta man and his companion are passing. Photo taken from the bottom of New Street looking across Calton Road. The main railway line passes overhead.
	Calton Road 34 1280 x 1024 178K	Looking along the south side of Calton Road. Half a kilometre to the east is the junction of Canongate, Abbeyhill, Abbey Strand and Horse Wynd.

	New Street 67 1280 x 851 231K	A wide angle view looking diagonally across the site. Jacob's Ladder leads up the cliff above the rail tunnels to Regent Road. The Nelson Monument is on top of Calton Hill. The old Royal High School is near the centre of the picture.

	New Street 70 1280 x 851 336K	Drivers can't park here any more but further down New Street on its west side there's an entrance to the carpark beside Waverley Station. There's a tunnel under the grass-topped building in New Street 64 above.
