Most of Calton Jail was demolished but the Governor's House remains. This view from Nelson's Monument on Calton Hill looks over the top of it towards North Bridge and the Old Town. More about Calton Jail from Peter Stubbs' excellent Edin-Photo web site.

This shows more of the Governor's House as well as the green copper roof of Saint Andrew's House. East Market Street can be seen in the sunshine behind Waverley Station.
| A strange assortment of messages caught my eye, including "FESTIVAL THEA STH COL ", "DANGER OF DEATH KEEP OFF" and a neatly stencilled image of a woman's face done in purple and pink paint - but with red lips. The dull grey metal of the substation contrasts with the green weeds and yellow flowers. | ||
| A Similar view to North Bridge nm4 above but with the camera panned slightly to the right. A longer lens has been used to zoom in on the pattern of straight lines on Waverley Station roof, broken by the curved arches of the bridge. | ||

Looking over Waverley Station from the Scott Monument towards North Bridge. Salisbury Crags and Arthur's Seat are in the background. The sun is shining on the Radical Road.

Another view of the bridge photographed from the roof of Princes Mall, formerly known as Waverley Market. Salisbury Crags provide the background for the bridge and double decker bus.

Primary colours brighten up the shadows under the bridge.

A few paces further east gives this view of the arched girders supporting the bridge. The arched windows to the right belong to the Market Street Steps leading up to the top of the Bridge.

Part of North Bridge as seen from the top of the Jacob's Ladder stairway which connects Calton Road and Regent Road.

An assortment of textures and painted surfaces is accentuated by the flattened persective of a long lens.

A similar view but with a wider angle showing part of Calton Hill and the Nelson Monument. |

Another long lens shot of the hurly burly of South Bridge.

A gentleman pauses at the junction of Jeffrey Street and Market Street while an open-topped double-decker bus heads towards Waverley Bridge. The Balmoral Hotel stands at the corner of North Bridge and Princes Street.

A long-lens shot taken from Princes Street Gardens near the National Gallery.

Spiral stone steps lead down from the south west corner of North Bridge to Market Street, opposite the south entrance to Waverley Station. The Scotsman building is behind, now a hotel - the Scotsman newspaper having moved to Holyrood Road some time ago.

A second shot, taken because my wide-angle lens wasn't quite wide enough to capture the top and bottom all at once without stepping backwards into the traffic. I might take more shots with my fisheye lens... Watch this space --> [_____] ;o) |
