Images on this page were photographed from the Scott Monument. The southern end of the bridge spans Market Street below, then passes to the left of the Scotsman building. Salisbury Crags and Arthur's Seat stand behind in the winter sunshine. |

A covered walkway leads up a few step from Waverley Station to Market Street. Across the street at the right of the picture is the arched entrance to the bottom of the spiral steps leading up to North Bridge. | |

Somehow I imagine this as a scene from an Alfred Hitchcock film. Currently (May 2004) Edinburgh is finding favour for filming. St Stephen's Street and Old College are both being used. | |

The majestic cliffs of Salisbury Crags dominate the Edinburgh Skyline. The Radical Road is a fairly easy walk along the base of the cliffs and affords views almost as good as from the more precipitous path along the top. | |

In Market Street the roof on the left has trees growing on it. The taller building is quite old but its sign appears to have been designed using the Comic Sans MS font, in upper case. Nevertheless, more discreet than some garish hotel signs - and made of discrete letters, too. | |

The white tower is the Camera Obscura, a visitor attraction. It stands amongst some interesting old architecture with a backdrop provided by Allermuir, one of the Pentland Hills. | |

You can take a pleasant walk through the grounds of this church. Beyond it lies the red sandstone building of the Caledonian Hotel. Faintly visible in the far distance is Kirknewton, The 'Five Sisters' shale tip, and at the right, the trees on the ridge between Wilkieston and Ratho. | |

In this northwest view can be seen the Western General Hospital, both Forth Bridges, the red tower block formerly known as Martello Court, an aircraft heading up the Firth of Forth to land at Edinburgh Airport - and also (middle distance, right hand side) Fettes College where Tony Blair was educated. |

The statue might be holding up her hand in horror at the smoker having a cigarette with her coffee, or maybe protecting herself from pigeons because the anti-bird netting only covers the balconies and windows. | |

In this shot you can see people through the windows. Also just visible is some fine netting, presumably to prevent pigeons and starlings from spoiling the beautifully restored stonework. |

The ubiquitous Granton Gasworks are in the distance over the rooftops. The steeple of the Church of St Andrew and St George towers over George Street. |

The column at the centre of St Andrew Square has at its top a statue of Henry Dundas (Viscount Melville). This black edifice and the shining white buildings at Chancelot Mills dominate this view. Several towns across the water in Fife can be seen. Kirkcaldy (at the right) is the largest. Another photo of Viscount Melvile is on Princes Street page 13. |

The tower crane in the foreground is mirrored by numerous cranes at Leith Docks further away. Despite appearances, the island of Inchkeith is actually closer to Fife on the far side of the Firth of Forth. |

I don't know the name of this building but I think its been a clothes store of one sort or another for decades. It's at the corner of Princes Street and South St Andrew Street. The camera is facing more east than north and is looking out over the Firth of Forth to the North Sea. | |
