Views from Arthur's Seat
Includes views of Salisbury Crags from above.
Doesn't include remote views of Arthur's Seat.
| The light was changing quickly - good for landscapes / townscapes. 16 pictures taken in a 2-hour walk in the park. This picture taken from low down on the zigzag path up the main hill. | ||
| Part way up the path and a broader view of Salisbury Crags. | ||
| Corstorphine Hill and Edinburgh Castle are on the left. The Firth of Forth stretches along to the right behind the crags. | ||
| While people admire the view the crows play in the updraught of wind coming up the Gutted Haddie. | ||
| The view east to Aberlady Bay and the triangular shaped hill of North Berwick Law. | ||
| A gap in the clouds lets the sun shine on Blackford Hill. To its right are allotments and the large houses of Midmar Drive. The Pentland Hills and the Oxgangs area are in the background. | ||
| A party of schoolchildren is getting a field trip on Whinny Hill. Inchkeith Island sits out in the Firth of Forth. The sun is shining on Kirkcaldy over in Fife across the water. | ||
| Two people at the top gaze out on the view. Down below on the path someone walks their dog, and a man takes a photo of his partner. | ||
| Only the multi-storey flats at Leith's new Western Harbour development are enjoying the sunshine in this picture. | ||
| Gorse and heather grow amongst the rocks in the foreground. Beyond the park can be seen the Scott Monunent, North Bridge, Calton Hll and the Scottish Parliament. | ||
| Down below is St Margaret's Loch - and Royal Park Terrace in the sunshine. Easter Road Stadium, Lochend Park and Meadowbank Sports Ground also catch the sun for a while. | ||

A less wide view of Royal Park Terrace behind which, hidden from view, is the main railway line south to England (although it's actually running east-west here as it circles round Arthur's Seat).
| The sun picks out the west end of the Hibernian Football Club's Easter Road Stadium. | ||
| A wider view reveals that Leith Docks are also in a patch of sunshine. | ||
| London Road and Meadowbank Sports Centre can be seen over the top of Royal Park Terrace. | ||
| Queen's Drive goes right round Arthur's Seat in a circle. This is the start of the clockwise route near Duke's Walk and St Margaret's Loch. | ||

A large, white, temporary structure has enveloped the observatory on Blackford Hill. In the sun at the time was Braid Hill. The Pentland Hills are in the distance.

Not seen from Arthur's Seat but from my back window, included here as it's the same subject as the last picture.

Same as last picture but zoomed back to show the rainbow.

The new Informatics Forum partly obscures the rounded shape of McEwan Hall. Photographed from half way down Arthur's Seat.

A long lens view across Hunters Bog to Calton Hill. Fife lies across the Firth of Forth beyond. |
