This is the top of West Kip, and the view from it. The narrow path is well-worn, up here at 1806 feet above sea level.

The path snakes along East Kip then dips before climbing to Scald Law. Visible beyond its flat summit are the tops of Carnethy Hill (1890 feet) and Turnhouse Hill (1636 feet).
City Lights
from Allermuir

1152 x 864

Photographed just before 5pm early in December. The sun had set but there was still some skylight and a bright full moon. Down below the slopes of Allermuir, at the right of the picture are the bright lights of the A720 city bypass as it heads below the A70 Lanark Road before curving away westwards past Wester Hailes and Sighthill.

Yes, it's that sign again. Somehow it survives. Castlelaw Hill is the background in this image.
Allermuir View nw07

A shaft of sunlight illuminates one of the pink bings which dominate the landscape between Broxburn and Winchburgh. I think the mountain in the left background is Ben More. The big chimney belongs to Longannet Power Station, beyond which the River Forth curves north towards Alloa. Kincardine Bridge is visible. The Wallace Monument can just be discerned on the hill behind the chimney.
Capelaw View West
1280 x 1024

Looking into the far distance from Capelaw Hill. Just to the right of the chimney we can see the Wallace Monument silhouetted on top of its hill. Ben Ledi is the leftmost peak according to general consensus. Opinions differ regarding the others. Thanks to those who emailed me - informed opinion is always welcome.

Allermuir Summit Plaque 04
1152 x 864
227K
The view from Allermuir is largely similar to that from Capelaw, above. It's only about 40m higher and one kilometre east so this plaque should help with identification.
View to Burntisland
1280 x 854
192K
A long lens shot taken from lower down Allermuir. At the bottom of the picture on the Edinburgh side of the Firth of Forth, the green copper rooves of the old Donaldson's School stand in front of the spires of Fettes College. The Craigkelly transmitter tower stands high above the town of Burntisland across the water over in Fife.
Crags

The view to Salisbury Crags as seen from Allermuir.
Easyjet Flare
1280 x 720
109K
An Easyjet aeroplane flies up the Firth of Forth in its approach to Edinburgh airport. Somewhere in Fife gas is being burnt off from a chimney flare.

The same aircraft as it gets nearer to the airport. Corstorphine Hill lies beneath.
Redford
Murrayfield

1280 x 656

Redford Barracks are in the foreground. In the distance on the right is Murrayfield Rugby Stadium with the ice rink to its left. The building with the orange and grey squares is a new apartment complex at Westfield.
Broxburn
1280 x 811
195K
A clear, sunny day except for some mist and low cloud lingering over the Firth of Forth led to six long lens photos taken from Capelaw. Here, the red shale bings stand behind an industrial estate at Broxburn. The snow topped Ochil Hills rise up in the background.
Forth HH00
1280 x 803
139K
The Forth road bridge stands behind Edinburgh Airport. In the clearer air higher up, wind turbines can be seen spoiling the view.
Forth HH01
1280 x 667
107K
Low cloud obscures much of Fife but sunlight catches the Forth Bridge and North Queensferry and Inverkeithing.
Helicopter
1280 x 794
157K
A twin rotor military helicopter passes in front of the Craigkelly transmitter mast standing above Burntisland. At this side of the Firth of Forth stands the remains of Granton Gasworks.
Helicopter 1
1280 x 982
159K
The helicopter continues east. Down below can be seen Fettes College, and further to the right the twin Gothic spires of Stewarts Melville College. A small plane flying west is at top right.
Helicopter 2
1280 x 850
205K
The helicopter prepares to land at Redford Barracks. Murrayfield rugby stadium is at the bottom left of the picture.
