St
Leonard's 2005c 813 x 1024 300K |
Taken about 30 years apart, this and the previous photo complement each other inasmuch as each of them views the other's viewpoint. At the top right of this picture can be seen where the cobbled road was, now hidden by trees except for the top of the stairs. The road below is Queen's Drive. |

Vet 1024 x 679 141K |
Previously featured as a scanned print, this image is of higher quality. The Veterinary College is on the left, Sciennes is on the right. New houses have been built since Bertram's Foundry closed some years ago. |

Bertram's
rubber stamp 777 x 438 119K |
St Katherine's Works, Sciennes, Edinburgh is no more. I bought the rubber stamp from a junk shop which existed for a while in the former 'steamie' (public laundry) in Causewayside, a continuation of Summerhall. I flipped the image horizontally to make it legible. |

Place Summerhall 1280 x 854 290K |
Sciennes Place combined with Sciennes and Summerhall form a narrow triangle with no room for houses at the section of Sciennes pictured. Where the houses in Summerhall and Sciennes Place meet there's this strange corner with assorted windows crammed together. |

Sciennes Place Summerhall 2 1280 x 854 363K |
A few paces to the north shows the grassy triangle at the rear of Summerhall and some basement windows. These two pictures taken in 2009. |

Innocent 600 x 442 68K |
Innocent Railway Tunnel cycle-path, St Leonards end. If you freewheel through here on your roller blades inline skates, you can whizz effortlessly down to Duddingston Loch. |

2004 768 x 1024 347K |
This is how the tunnel looks a year or two later, photographed from a footbridge. Holyrood Park Road passes overhead. Pollock Halls student flats are across the road. |

2008 Holyrood Park Road on a misty morning |
I decided to climb Arthur's Seat in an attempt to get above the mist. You can see how successful I was here - or here once before... |

Millar 483 x 768 87K |
This was how Millars confectionery
factory looked in 1984, from the back of 166 Causewayside. This was where
they made their brand of peppermint imperials called Pan Drops.
Millars moved out of town somewhere - so this site probably contains houses now... |

Millar 2 1024 x 603 97K |
A wide view of the scene described above. |

Millar 3 526 x 712 86K |

Millar 4 724 x 768 143K |
From the same viewpoint as before but with a standard lens. Two employees are standing on the roof. Blackford Hill and the Pentland Hills are in the distance. |
