Looking south-east towards Slateford Road from the new section of the Water of Leith Walkway, underneath the railway viaduct and Union Canal aqueduct. The visitor centre opposite the Tickled Trout pub has interactive models demonstrating flood plains etc.

Photographed from the aqueduct seen at the back of the picture above. Looking down on the railway viaduct with the Water of Leith and walkway passing beneath it.

Slateford

My map indicates Back Row as the actual name. This is between the railway viaduct and the Union Canal aqueduct where they cross Inglis Green Road and the Water of Leith. |

The wide angle lens is pointing west over the aqueduct where the Union Canal crosses the Water of Leith and Inglis Green Road. There are more canal photos starting at Edinburgh West page 3 (Wester Hailes) as well as Edinburgh Local page 4 (Ratho). |

The railway line passes below Slateford Road here. Steps lead down to Wardlaw Terrace. The brick building is a small brewery. |

Telfer
Subway 1152 x 864 185K |
A footpath connects Dundee Street to Orwell Terrace passing below the busy West Approach Road. The pedestrian underpass predates the road - which was built on the old railway lines to the Caledonian Station at Edinburgh's West End. |

A later picture showing the other end of the subway. It has just been painted with anti-vandal paint. |

The Diggers Angle Pk Ter 00 754 x 1024 319K |
A popular pub which gets its name from Dalry Cemetery across the road on the north side of Henderson Terrace. Photo taken from the footpath to Dundee Terrace. |

Angle
Pk Ter 01 768 x 1024 197K |
A good example of the two-tone stonework used in many of Edinburgh's tenements. This road, Angle Park Terrace forms the southern hypotenuse of a triangle with Ardmillan Terrace and Henderson Terrace forming the right-angle where Gorgie Road meets Dalry Road. |

Another shot from the footpath that runs parallel to Angle Park Terrace before passing below Harrison Road. |

Ashley
Terrace 856 x 1024 208K |
The path is really now a private road leading to the railway yard between Meggetland and Slateford Road at the Hutchison area. This is the view up to the bridge at Shandon Place / Ashley Terrace. |

Cycling under some of the canal bridges has an element of risk, most cyclists ping their bells to warn other cyclists and pedestrians of their approach. It would be easy to fall into the water if not careful! |

Caledonian Brewery 1152 x 864 218K |
Good beer comes from here. I'm getting thirsty just thinking about it... |

The canalside path is tarmac now to better cope with walkers and cyclists, whose numbers have grown as commuters switch from cars and buses. A December Sunday means it isn't busy.

Further east towards the city centre there were a few swans near the Meggetland area.

These two swans were glad to meet up again after separating for a while. |
