Saturday June 5th 2010 and it's perfect weather for the Meadows Festival.
This is the view west from near Jawbone Walk. |
Thrills and excitement on the fairground rides. |
Hanging out, sitting in the sun, meeting friends, listening to music... |
Waiting for the machinery to start up - and then get shoogled sideways. |
Barbecues are illegal on Bruntsfield Links and The Meadows but, with
nobody to enforce this, the smoke and the smell and the scorched grass
will just continue. |
The crowd are listening to a band play. Over in the distance to the
south are the tall tenements of Warrender Park Terrace. |
More folks listening to the music and just hanging out. The steeple
of Barclay church is over by Bruntsfield Links at the other side of Melville
Drive. |
A wide view from Coronation Walk towards Middle Meadow Walk. |
Another look at the Crazy Frog ride. |
In the shade looking over towards North Meadow Walk with Middle Meadow
Walk on the right. The buildings are at Quartermile. |
Dozens of stalls selling clothes, paintings and all sorts of bric-a-brac.

Jawbone Walk looking towards Middle Meadow Walk. |
Some of the bric-a-brac on sale at one stall. |
Pipe wrench, Surform, tin snips, planes, Stanley knife, setsquare,
bradawl, hand drill, Molegrip - just some of the tools on offer at bargain
prices. |
Files, box spanners, open spanners, screwdrivers etc all 50p each. |
Having a blether, kicking a ball about - or defying gravity spinning
in a tilted centrifuge ride. The painted likeness of Johnny Depp looks
on, its presence probably violating a Walt Disney copyright. |
Zoomed in on the thrill seekers. |
The local shops must sell quite a few of these cheap £1.49 disposable
barbecues. Maybe the council could ban shops from selling them instead
of erecting the odd notice. Update: Pragmatism has prevailed - concrete slabs have been provided for BBQs. |

Photographed a year later in 2011. It's still busy despite a cool east wind. |
